Open gym FAQ
for visitors.
Twenty questions we get from traceurs visiting Osaka, answered in plain English. If yours isn’t here, send it on Instagram ── short and simple is best, and we’ll reply the same way.
Booking, hours,
and what to bring.
Do I need to book open gym?
Please let us know before you come. Regulars book through our LINE account or an online system in Japanese. For visitors, a short Instagram message with the date and number of people is enough. Registration is done at the desk on the day.
When is open gym?
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 19:00–21:00. Extra sessions, sometimes on Sundays, are announced on Instagram Stories.
Is the gym open on Japanese public holidays?
Holidays and closures are announced on Instagram Stories first. Check @pk_guild1 on the day, especially around Golden Week, Obon and the New Year.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes you can move in, a drink, and cash. Remove accessories and tie back long hair.
Can I come alone?
Yes. Most people train alone or in small groups. On open nights you’ll share the floor with locals.
Can I just come and watch first?
Send us a message and tell us when you’d like to come. We’ll let you know what’s possible that night.
What it costs,
and how to pay.
How much is a first visit?
¥1,100 one-time registration plus your time: 1 hour ¥1,400, 2 hours ¥2,200 or the full session ¥3,200. Instagram followers pay ¥1,200 / ¥2,000 / ¥3,000 ── show the follow at the desk.
Do I pay the ¥1,100 every time?
No. Registration is once. After that you pay only the time fee each visit.
Can I pay by card?
Cards are accepted with a ¥160 handling fee. Cash is simpler and preferred.
Can I extend my time?
Yes, at the desk. Changing 1 hour to 2 hours costs ¥900 (the ¥800 difference plus ¥100 handling). Changing to the full session is the difference plus ¥100.
I’m staying a month. Is there a pass?
The FTO pass is ¥20,000 per month for unlimited open gym, with its own card. It pays off from about the tenth visit.
What is the guild rank?
Every visit is counted. From 30 visits you can test up from D to C, then B, A, S, SS and SSS, earning free sessions and permanent discounts. Details on the open gym page.
Rules, safety,
and the equipment.
Is there coaching during open gym?
No. Open gym is self-training. If you want a coach, 60-minute private lessons and a monthly adult class are available, taught in Japanese ── see the overview page.
Am I insured?
No. Open-gym registration makes you a free member without sports insurance. Everything on the floor is at your own risk. Train within your level.
What equipment is there?
A 14 m × 9 m spring floor, a 5 m × 6 m foam pit sunk into the floor, walls up to 5.5 m, and movable boxes, bars and rails. Photos on the facility page.
Can I move the equipment?
Ask at the desk first, and put it back afterwards. Staff set the floor for each night.
Can I film myself?
Ask at the desk. Keep other people, especially children, out of your shots.
Can I teach my friend or client during open gym?
Teaching for money needs the paid-coaching registration: ¥11,000 a year for the coach, and both coach and client pay the normal time fee each visit. Unregistered paid coaching can get the coach banned. Helping a friend for free is just training together.
Language, kids,
and getting here.
Does anyone speak English?
No. We have no English-speaking staff. Open gym needs almost no talking: register, pay, train. For questions, write to us in simple English on Instagram or by email and we’ll reply in simple English.
Can my children use open gym?
Elementary-school children must be accompanied by a guardian. There is no coaching and no insurance during open gym, so it suits kids who already train. Our kids classes run in Japanese only.
How do I get there?
Yokozutsumi Station on the Osaka Metro Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line, 3 minutes on foot. 3 stops from Kyobashi, 10 from Shinsaibashi. No parking. Routes from Kyoto, Kobe, Nara and the airport are on the access page.
Is there anywhere to leave my bag?
Bring it in with you and keep it off the floor. Ask at the desk if you have large luggage.
How do I contact you?
Instagram @pk_guild1 is fastest. Email pkgil.staff@gmail.com also works. Replies can be slow once a session has started.
